Cheap Blinds
” My Nightmare”
If you are looking for cheap blinds then you must realize that “you get what you pay for”. That being said you can still get really good blinds that won’t break the bank. If they are going in an apartment or in a room that isn’t used that frequently then you can get away with cheap blinds because they are suiting your purpose and fitting within your budget.
When shopping for cheap blinds it is important to remember that there is a point when cheap blinds become to cheap. For instance I was looking for a set of cheap blinds for my second bathroom. Being the consummate bargain shopper I headed over to my local “Dollar Store” and bought a set of Mini Blinds that matched the width of the window. They were white and had the typical pull cord. They came with all the hardware, well almost all the hardware. Someone forgot to include the screws. After much searching through the garage I found several screws that would do the trick, even though they were mismatched and one was almost long enough to go through the siding on the outside of the house I was in business.
I hung the cheap blinds and “low and behold” I failed to realize that although the width was fine they were about three feet too long. Down came the blinds again. I now had to figure out how to make them shorter without completely destroying the cheap blinds. I found the instructions in the box and there it was, the complete guide to shortening your blinds. It was in every conceivable language except for English. Now I have never seen this before. Everything is always in English, right? Not this time. Off to the internet to search for instructions on how to shorten my cheap blinds. ½ an hour later I was armed and ready to go. Following the instructions perfectly I now had a set of perfectly sized cheap blinds to install in my bathroom.
I hung the cheap blinds again and they worked flawlessly, except for one slight problem. The width was right, the length was right and they went up and down correctly. They even opened properly. So what was my problem? You could see right through them! Now I’m not much of a voyeur so the thought of having see-through cheap blinds in my bathroom just didn’t appeal to me.
Now everyone knows that in order to be able to keep the cost low you have to use cheaper material. But if you are designing cheap blinds you might want to skimp on the screws or the brackets or even the pull cord but you can’t skimp on the slats for the blinds. This defeats the whole purpose of the blind. It’s no longer a Cheap Blind it is now a cheap see-through.
As I said earlier “you get what you pay for”. You can find plenty of cheap blinds just don’t get them at the “Dollar Store”……
